‘Buddhism is a path of practice and spiritual development leading to Insight into the true nature of life. Buddhist practices such as meditation are means of changing oneself in order to develop the qualities of awareness, kindness and wisdom. The experience developed within the Buddhist tradition over thousands of years has created an incomparable resource for all those who wish to follow a path which ultimately culminates in Enlightenment or Buddhahood.
Buddhism died out in India over 700 years ago. In 1956 this situation changed dramatically with the conversion of Dr B R Ambedkar to Buddhism along with 500,000 followers who had all been born so-called untouchables (today known as dalits). After much research he concluded that Buddhism was the most suitable religion not only for his followers but for modern man and women throughtout the world.
